It seems that the Pepsi Mighty Mouse (2nd from
left) glass has been the "Holy Grail" of the Pepsi
cartoon glass collectors for as long as I can remember. I believe
the reverence started with some of the west coast collectors
in the early 80's. The late Dave Cole and Les Chapman were both
advanced collectors of Pepsi glasses long before the price guides
and newsletters were available. They would tell the story of
how the Mighty Mouse Pepsi glasses were only available at two
or three Taco Bell restaurants in Northern California. It is
by far the most expensive of the released Pepsi cartoon glasses
with the Pepsi Space Mouse (far right of photo) glass coming
in second.
The interest in the Pepsi glass has rubbed off
on other Mighty Mouse glasses too. The Australian Monkeys of
Melbourne version (far left of photo) is highest priced of these
issues too. Collectors have often pushed the price of this glass
to over $150 at times. The 1940's Mighty Mouse glass (2nd from
right) is probably the hardest to find of the four glasses pictured,
although not the most expensive. It is part of a set of six
glasses that were issued as a box set in the forties. All these
items are available in the current CGN auction that closes on
October 23, 1999.
