Glasses from the 1930's
and early 1940's sets are often very difficult to complete. Many
of the sets had limited distribution, limited promotion spans, and
limited interests. Not to mention the fact that they were disposable
containers and are fragile too! So it is no wonder that some of
the early Disney sets are very scarce. The above Dumbo glasses are
very unusual. I know several collectors that have a couple in their
collection, but I am not aware of anyone who has a complete six
glass set.
In addition to the glasses shown above
there are four others: The Gossipy Elephants, Five Black Crows,
Timothy Mouse & Casey Jr. The Tomart Price Guide to Character
& Promotional Glasses which has the largest list and photography
of early Disney glasses, shows only a promotional flyer for these
glasses. If you look closely at the flyer in the book, you will
see that the glasses are actually a little different. There is an
added rule line around the top and the art work has been slightly
modified.
Both of these glasses will be available
in the next CGN auction closing in December.
