Milk Glass Hockey Player Mugs by Fire-King
Those
of you that read the newsletter know that my glass collecting passion
is hockey glasses. I've been working to complete my York
Hockey glass set that was issued in the early 1960s, and I only have
a few left on my want list. The fun of collecting is that you've always
got to be looking for something else to be hunting! I've found another
hockey set that I'm now working on too. These are milk glass mugs produced
by Fire-King that are dated 1971 and feature a character drawing of a
player on the front and their name is printed across the back. I've collected
these five and am aware of at least one other player available. The five
I have are: Stan Mikita, Yvan Cournoyer, Peter Mahovlich, Eddie Giacomin,
and Brad Park. I've also seen a Dave Keon mug, but it wasn't worth the
$75 selling price to me. Most of these I have purchased in the $10 - $15
price range. According to a Canadian collector, these were available in
departments stores like Miracle Mart in the early 70s. Has anyone else
seen them or know the complete list of players produced?
Our next auction closes on June 9th. We
again have a few Pepsi sample glasses that are sure to spark interest
along with a number of other nice items. Feel free to register and submit
bids.
