It's Snowing in Pennsylvania,
But the Auctions Are Hot!
Collector Glass News Auction #57 closed on February 17,
2001. Pictured here in the latest 6" snowfall of Western
Pennsylvania are four Pepsi sample glasses that brought considerable
interest from glass collectors. The first is a Howdy Doody glass
with a Pepsi logo and a 1976 National Broadcasting Company copyright.
This is one glass from a set that was proposed in the late 1970s
and never went into production. This is probably the most desirable
glass of the set showing a bright red and blue image of Howdy
Doody. It sold for $2079.00.
The Zoltar glass is from another Pepsi set that was never produced.
The 1979 Battle of the Planets set also has several different
glasses that have been found by collectors. The cartoon series
was short lived and may explain why this set never made it.This
glass sold for $990.00
The last two glasses showing Tom & Jerry of the 1975 MGM Pepsi
series may look familiar. These images were produced by Pepsi
and distributed throughout the county. However, these two versions
were early prototypes that used a white background. The final
production pieces used a yellow background. These glasses sold
for $483.00 each.
