New Movie Theme Glassware

    The "golden age" of promotional glassware was during the late 1970's and early 1980's. Many of the major film releases during this period were promoted on glassware in conjunction with a restaurant - The Star Wars Trilogy, The Goonies, Superman The Movie, James Bond, etc. Current restaurant promotions are most often limited to plastic. For instance, the recent Episode I film release had no formal glass promotions in the US. In Australia there were glass promotions for the movie but not in the US, only plastic. However, if you are a dedicated enough collector and you're willing to scour a little harder, a few glass sets that promote current films can be found. The Galaxy Quest set shown above is an example. The "unconfirmed" story surrounding these glasses is that they were produced for members of the film production crew and staff as gifts. A few sets have surfaced on eBay selliing for between $50 - $100 per set.
